My candidacy is rooted in the transformative impact of public schools. I seek to serve as a voice for our educators and youth, while bridging the gap between local families and the critical decisions facing our district.
Meet Serenity Coats
Serenity is an Accredited Financial Counselor® and a National Certified Counselor with over 20 years of experience serving military families and local communities. Her professional background includes experiences in education policy and research, school counseling, financial counseling, training and development, and logistics and supply chain management.
For the past two decades, her primary focus has been ensuring military families and students receive the steady support, safety, and high quality education they deserve. Now, she is ready to serve Leander ISD’s students, teachers, and families directly on the School Board. Serenity is running for the Leander ISD School Board, Place 1 to advocate for teachers, increase family and community engagement, and support policies that promote college, career and military readiness for all students. She is committed to strong student support and real-world postsecondary readiness opportunities across our district.
My Priorities for Leander ISD
Advocate for Public Education & Teachers
State funding hasn't increased, while enrollment growth has slowed and costs keep rising. Leander ISD has to provide a strong education for every student, despite these funding gaps.
Rising benefit costs and budget pressures have impacted teacher compensation and students. I will support policies that help retain, reward, and recruit our teachers.
College, Career, & Military Readiness for Students
Our students need to be prepared for college, career and military success, and their needs should be at the center of every budget and policy decision.
Intervention services are important for each student to meet the district’s performance standards.
Students should be exposed to College and Technical Education (CTE) pathways in elementary school, so that they can take advantage of these courses in middle school and high school.
Personal Financial Literacy should include career exploration to ensure that students have clear, actionable pathways toward higher education, vocational training, the military or the workforce after they graduate.
School & Community Partnerships
Families and community members should be able to provide input, lend their expertise, and be a part of the decision making process.
I will support neighbors, parents, and community members’ involvement in district and school committees, so they can share their insight about budgeting and policy decisions.
